Royal Chitwan National Park , a world Natural Site declared by UNESCO, is one of the most visited Parks. The park with an area of 932-sq. km. offers more than 500 Asian one-horned rhinoceros roaming in her sprawling grass and wetlands. Other most famous species that one can find and enjoy in this park is some 100 nocturnal Royal Bengal tigers hunting their preys in this dense Jungle. The diverse ecology of the Park is home to around 600 plant species, 50 mammals, 526 birds and 49 amphibians and reptiles. Some of the fauna and flora are endangered.
The rivers in and around the Park also boast about the endangered snouted gharial popularly known as Gangetic crocodile. The extra attraction in the Park is fresh water dolphins diving below and above the water level in Narayani River
It is not just the flora and fauna that makes the Royal Chitwan national Park a unique tourist destination. Local culture, tradition, and the way of life add colour and liveliness to tourists' experience. The most primitive dwellers of this area are mainly the Tharu Community who lived in the area even before the park was declared in 1972. The daily life of the Tharus enriched with traditional culture, their traditionally decorated thatched huts, traditional method of performing house-hold and their typical dances make a combination worth experiencing while in this Park.
